TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian and Greek lawmakers are working on proposals to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe's (PACE) report aimed at ending the violence against Christians in Syria, Deputy Head of the Russian delegation to PACE Vyacheslav Fetisov said.

The Federation Council press service reported citing Fetisov that he has taken part in the discussion of the situation in the Middle-East in Strasbourg.

"We, parliamentarians, are very concerned about the development of the crisis in Syria, which is turning into an ethnic and religious conflict. Crimes against representatives of religious minorities have recently become frequent in Syria, and that poses a threat to Christian minorities not only in Syria, but also in the Middle-East in general," Fetisov said, the Voice of Russia reported.

On Wednesday, Syria's armed groups assassinated monk Francois Murad of the Franciscan monastery in Jisr al-Shughour countryside in Idlib.

Vatican news agency on Tuesday quoted head of all Franciscans in the Holy Land and Custos of the Holy Land in al-Quds (Jerusalem) Pierbattista Pizzaballa as saying that father Murad decided to be a hermit and resorted to the monastery few weeks earlier.

Custos of the Holy Land said that gunmen entered the monastery and looted all of its items before killing monk Murad, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.

"The world must know that supporting the gunmen by the west help extremists kill the Syrians", Pizzaballa said, adding, "With such stances, not a single Christian will remain in the East."
